How to learn a new language fast and easy

how to learn a new language fast and easy

Are you wanting to learn a new language but just don’t have the time? Have you given up a hundred times because it’s just too difficult or boring? Well, you’re in luck! Here are my top 5 tips for how to learn a new language fast and easy after years of trial and error.

1. Do something you actually enjoy

Learning a new language takes months, years, even decades. Therefore, it’s essential you stick to a consistent routine, preferably every day. One of the best ways to create a consistent routine is to choose a task or activity that incorporates your new language in a fun and enjoyable way. So, let’s think. What do you already enjoy doing? For me, I love music, which also happens to be a great way to learn a new language. Currently, I’m learning Vietnamese. After I choose a Vietnamese song that I just love listening to over and over again, then I’ll look up the lyrics or translate them, so I can sing along.

2. watch movies or TV series in the new language

This is another great way to gain better listening skills in your new language. There’s so many movies and TV series out there in a variety of languages. If you can, choose a movie or TV show you already enjoy and just watch it in another language.

3. Make new friends

If no one else around you speaks the language you’re trying to learn, then turn to digital resources. Of course, it would be best if you had friends or family around you to practice your speaking skills, but I understand if that’s not an option. If so, try searching YouTube for videos spoken in the native language. Also, if you can find children’s content in the target language that’s even better if you’re a beginner. You can also hire a tutor to help you improve your language skills, which can help with conversational skills, listening, and speaking. No matter how you learn, just remember to include speaking, listening, and writing activities during your practice sessions. I never study more than an hour a day because of my attention span, so make sure you don’t overwhelm yourself.

4. First learn the alphabet and pronunciation

This will make your learning a lot easier. Once you have the basics down and a solid understanding of the pronunciation of each letter, this will help when you pronounce new words down the road.

5. Travel to the country

This is by far the best advice any one will be able to give when it comes to learning a new language. Everyone’s situation is different, so it may not be possible to travel. Or especially right now during a pandemic when none of us are traveling. If possible in the future, definitely plan a trip to the country where you’re surrounded by the language. When I traveled to Vietnam, almost everyone spoke Vietnamese, so it was much easier to practice my speaking skills. Even better, you learn about the culture and way of life there.
