Do you often feel drained after talking to people all day? Do you look forward to your alone time? I always thought that being introverted was such a negative thing, because it seemed like society praised those who were outgoing. I never understood why being quiet was a bad thing. It took me a while to see that being an introvert comes with so many benefits. Although we all have a little bit of an introvert and extravert in us, some of us have a little more than others, and that uniqueness is beautiful. I want you to know that no matter how introverted you are, you are amazing and that introversion deserves to be praised every day. Here are some of the best things about being an introvert in my opinion:
1. The ability to listen well
Introverts are known to have amazing listening skills. Because an introvert is most often thinking that makes them more likely to be actively listening in a conversation. In today’s society where everyone is glued to their phone, active listening can be hard to come by. I often think that listening is more important than speaking, because it shows your understanding of the other person. People will almost always be able to tell if you were listening or not. That’s why it’s one of the best things about being an introvert.
2. The ability to make thoughtful decisions
To think before you act helps in a lot of situations whether it’s a simple decision or a major life-changing decision. Since introverts are avid thinkers, they will more likely take the time to think about things before acting. This trait is especially important when you have a multitude of options in front of you, and you need to make a thoughtful decision. Some of the greatest decisions I’ve ever made were because I took the time to think about them.
3. The trait of independence
Introverts tend to be more independent, because they often need a little alone time to recharge their batteries. Having this trait can really help when you’re in a situation where you need to be independent, such as moving to a new city or starting a new job. Having independence can also help with confidence and the strength to accomplish more tasks on your own.
4. The ability of storytelling
The ability to be an incredible storyteller is a gift that not many people have, and many introverts possess. Storytelling can be a powerful thing, whether you use it to tell stories to your family or in meetings at work. People usually respond to a well-crafted story with more engagement, something that can be powerful when holding others’ attention.
5. The skill of leadership
Although you wouldn’t think that many introverts make great leaders, they most definitely do! There’s so many traits that make a great leader, like compassion, understanding, influence, patience, and responsibility. Some of the greatest leaders in the world just so happen to call themselves introverts as well. All that creativity and innovation that introverts possess is a driving force behind what makes an amazing leader. So, if you ever think there’s no way you’d fit in a leaders shoes, remember all of your strengths and how much they apply to great leadership.
6. Always remember to be yourself
Whether you’re an introvert or not, being yourself is the greatest gift you can give to society. Being your true, authentic, genuine self. You’d think it’d be so easy to do, but I see people struggle every day with the fight against who they are and who they show to the world. The best thing about living in this world is getting to show others who you really are, and knowing that is enough. After 30 years of life, I wish I had the confidence I have now when it comes to being yourself. So, if you’ve ever felt like being an introvert in today’s society is hard, just know how much benefit and beauty you bring to the world when you stay true to yourself.
