Are you ready for a weekend getaway in the desert? Then Phoenix may have just what you need! The best months to visit Phoenix, Arizona would be spring or fall, once the high heat of the summer dies down. The best months I’ve visited were April and October, but do a little research and see what works best for you. There’s lots of hiking, beautiful scenery, and a diverse mix of foods. So, let’s get to the list! Here are the best things to do for a perfect weekend in Phoenix:
1. Go hiking
Phoenix has some great hiking around the area. For an easy hike, I’d recommend Papago Park which is not far from Sky Harbor Airport. You’ll get some fantastic views during your hike and your exercise for the day. For a more difficult hike, try Camelback Mountain, which is very popular for both visitors and locals. For more information, check out Visit Phoenix’s website here. Just remember to always wear some good hiking shoes, sunscreen, a hat, and bring a water bottle. You’re sure to work up a sweat in the desert sun. Hiking is not only a great way to get your exercise in, but a perfect way to see views of the city.
2. Kayak the Salt River
Kayaking may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think Phoenix, but it’s seriously one of the best things to do while you’re here. We rented a kayak in Tempe and set out down the Salt River. The river is really calm and it’s a nice, relaxing way to spend one afternoon. Additionally, you’re bound to get an amazing arm workout in while using those paddles to navigate the waters. My experience using Northshore WaterSport Rentals to rent the kayaks was awesome, so I’d definitely recommend them if you’re able to make it out to the river.
3. Stroll through Tempe Marketplace
If you’re down for some shopping, head to Tempe Marketplace. It’s an outdoor shopping mall full of stores and eateries. For more information about what they offer, check out their website here. It’s another relaxing way to spend an hour or two, taking a walk outside and breathing in the atmosphere.
4. Take a drive to Sedona
If you have some extra time or a long weekend, it’s about a two hour drive north to Sedona. One of the best views of Arizona is in Sedona in my opinion. The drive there will give you some beautiful views of the trees and steep canyons. Just the drive itself was enough for me to become mesmorized with the towering canyons and rock that surrounds the roads. It’s definitely a must! Of course, you can also drive a little further north and see the Grand Canyon. If you’ve never seen it, be sure to schedule some time to check it off your bucket list as well.
5. Try Korean corn dogs
After all that hiking, walking, and driving, you’re probably getting pretty hungry. If you’re looking for a tasty snack, this Korean corn dog by Two Hands is a must. They have a location in Mesa, which is just outside Phoenix, and it is VERY popular. There is always a line for these Korean style corn dogs. If you’ve never tried one, definitely add it to your list and enjoy.
I hope this list helped generate some ideas for your perfect weekend in Phoenix. I know I missed a lot more fun things to do, so let me know in the comments section what your favorite was. Happy future travels! 😊
